Mike Rowe Nails Why Trump Won

Mike Rowe, the host of “Dirty Jobs” was asked about what he thought about the election results on his Facebook page. He talked about Dirty Jobs, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and the real reason why Trump won. His answer was spot on.

He talked about why Dirty Jobs was like Trump: it wasn’t what the network wanted, it was off-target in its message and demographic, and yet it resonated with viewers like no other show the network had ever had. “Back in 2003,” he writes, “a very unusual TV pilot called Dirty Jobs, Forrest-Gumped its way onto The Discovery Channel and found an audience – a big one. For Discovery, this was a problem. You see, Dirty Jobs didn’t look like anything else on their channel. It wasn’t pretty or careful. It took place in sewers and septic tanks, and featured a subversive host in close contact with his 8-year old inner child who refused to do second takes. Everyone agreed that Dirty Jobs was totally “off-brand” and completely inappropriate for Discovery. Everyone but the viewers. The ratings were just too big to ignore, so the pilot got a green-light, and yours truly finally got a steady gig.”

He goes on, “Dirty Jobs didn’t resonate because the host was incredibly charming. It wasn’t a hit because it was gross, or irreverent, or funny, or silly, or smart, or terribly clever. Dirty Jobs succeeded because it was authentic. It spoke directly and candidly to a big chunk of the country that non-fiction networks had been completely ignoring. In a very simple way, Dirty Jobs said “Hey – we can see you,” to millions of regular people who had started to feel invisible. Ultimately, that’s why Dirty Jobs ran for eight seasons. And today, that’s also why Donald Trump is the President of the United States. “

Now, understand, Rowe at heart is a liberal. I imagine he probably voted for Stein. He explained that just like other folks, he’s nervous about Trump, but he understands that America has survived 44 other Presidents that half the nation was scared of. His real fear, though, is that people have started reviling not just Trump, but his supporters. “I know people are freaked out,” he writes. “I get it. I’m worried too. But not because of who we elected. We’ve survived 44 Presidents, and we’ll survive this one too. I’m worried because millions of people now seem to believe that Trump supporters are racist, xenophobic, and uneducated misogynists. I’m worried because despising our candidates publicly is very different than despising the people who vote for them.”

“For what it’s worth,” he says, talking about the candidates’ flaws and their supporters, “I don’t think Donald Trump won by tapping into America’s “racist underbelly,” and I don’t think Hillary lost because she’s a woman. I think a majority of people who voted in this election did so in spite of their many misgivings about the character of both candidates. That’s why it’s very dangerous to argue that Clinton supporters condone lying under oath and obstructing justice. Just as it’s equally dangerous to suggest a Trump supporter condones gross generalizations about foreigners and women.”

He adds, “The winner was NOT decided by a racist and craven nation – it was decided by millions of disgusted Americans desperate for real change. The people did not want a politician. The people wanted to be seen. Donald Trump convinced those people that he could see them. Hillary Clinton did not.”

Rowe concludes by pointing out that the things Trump wants to accomplish will require having trained workers who are eager and ready to work. “When the dust settles, and The White House gets a new tenant, I’ll make the same offer to President Trump that I did to President Obama – to assist as best I can in any attempt to reinvigorate the skilled trades, and shine a light on millions of good jobs that no one seems excited about pursuing. http://bit.ly/2fG1SxI/

He concludes with a push for his jobs-training company. “Like those 3 million “shovel ready” jobs we heard so much about eight years ago, the kind of recovery that Donald Trump is promising will require a workforce that’s properly trained and sufficiently enthused about the opportunities at hand. At the moment, we do not have that work force in place. What we do have, are tens of millions of capable people who have simply stopped looking for work, and millions of available jobs that no one aspires to do. That’s the skills gap, and it’s gotta close. If mikeroweWORKS can help, we’re standing by. “

  1. I think the trades need to be taught everywhere. High schools pvt schools. Who ever can make it happen. Wont be a lot of coddled college snowflakes in line but maybe all politicians should have to spend a year in construction, mines, ranches etc. Then maybe we wont have politicians who refer to half the voters as deploreables. Maybe then we wont be burdened with punitive taxes and regulations.

  2. Deb, that’s a valid point. But it shows what liberals failed to do in the last 20 years. Instead of concentrating on teaching people WHY racism is wrong and how to move beyond racism, we made special laws against racism. That doesn’t end the problem. It forces it underground.

So now we have a lot of racists we never knew we had, because we stopped even looking for them to try and show them a better way.

    • This is just bunk. If there were so many racists how did barrack hussein obama get elected. Twice. White people voted him in. Im white and i dont have a racist bone in my body. That is why trump got elected. People are sick and tired ofbeing accused of something that isnt true. Sick and tired of the rich govt ruling elite assuming they know our chracter, our hopes, our dreams. Sick and tired of globalist billionaires like soros breaking us down one morale value at a time. Sick and tired of corruption, million dollar deposits for 1 hour speeches and a population that believes welfare bebefits are an entititlement and a career. So basically, all of us regular deploreable folks are just sick and tired. The man who recogizes that is gonna get elected.

    • Hi David, I haven’t been to your site for 3 months but wanted to thank you for ALL your efforts for many months when there was NO voice for Trump! THANK YOU!

Just an observation but I don’t see the Happy ppl making comments on here that were here before! I see Hillary shills who have taken over. The ppl have spoken..Donald Trump took the POPULAR Vote & Electoral College! Its unfortunate that Liberals think if they say something it is so but that’s been the problem for 8 long lousy years!

8yrs ago I got into a group who was supporting Adam Lambert (he is gay)..we went to concerts..events..TV shows..Dinners.. Overnights.. when I put up my first support of Donald Trump on Twitter the leader sent me the most VILE message calling me a stupid bitch! Yesterday a woman in front of me at Grocery Store was bitching about paying 10cents a plastic bag (Cali) and turned in a loud voice and said “This is Trump’s fault” & that he was already removing Illegals from nearby Perris CA.

I will no longer TOLERATE “haters” complaining! One of ppl on here is calling friends names as liberal Dems always do..It has NEVER been Trump calling Americans names..deplorable, irredeemable, sexist, homophobic, racist, rednecks etc and this person complaining calls us “the underbelly of America”.. doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy toward them.

They go on to LIE as the MSM has done all along..but electing a CRIMINAL Hillary whose husband is a sexual predator and rapist..a couple who committed TREASON sold 20% of our uranium to Russia but bitch about some made up relationship of Trump & Putin..who calls Americans names and thinks they are above the law and proudly takes the stage with the MOST disgusting Drug dealing foul mouthed Rapper & his wife whose idea of showing her crack to the world is Michelle Obamas idol for her children..BUT is mortally offended cause someone said “pussy” 11yrs ago in a private conversation! I won’t even go in to the other nonsense!

I can’t stand Obama and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin..he is a narcissistic egomaniac who never gave a shit about this country! He & his lawbreaking DOJ & DHS have excused every act of violence against American citizens he didn’t like..until he is GONE we will all be looking over our shoulders & the left wing nut jobs are NOT going to get appeasement anymore..IT HASN’T WORKED! So they will be called out on it!

Again, Thank you David! You are a TRUE patriot!

  3. Actually, “The People” voted Hilary Clinton in, and the electoral votes is what allowed Trump to become President! If you research it….The People have spoken!!!

  4. He makes some valid points, a few. But it HAS brought out the underbelly of America … it has brought out what I have named the closet haters. Those who I thought were friends, those who I thought I knew, those who never contradicted my opinions … on Wed morning I was amazed at what my ‘friends’ were now saying. I now saw their true character and they now don’t have me as a ‘friend’. The closet haters now had their leader. They have now been given permission and encouragement to come out of the closet. The bullies on the playground had their leader telling them it was okay to be the bully. Look at the reports coming from the schools…the assaults aren’t against the haters … the assaults and vulgar words are being done by the haters; and it does not matter skin color. A bully leader will not be the unifying leader of peacefulness. A man who uses vulgarity, shaming, threatening words is not a leader. A man who’s personal Viet Nam was avoiding VD is not a leader. A man who is proud of pussy grabbing is not a leader. A man who makes fun of the disabled, like a child bully on a playground does, is not a leader. A leader should have thick-skin, should carefully and tactfully choose his words, should stand and say this is not how we are…. but alas, that is not what ‘we’ now have. The box is open – he has no intention of trying to put the hate back in …. this I believe will have to become our new normal. Always looking over our shoulder and wondering….. are they coming for me next?

  5. Trump Stump dot com the future of serious journalism

The Don is gonna leave all these country rubes out to dry. Gonna laugh when he kisses Putin’s ring.

    • Roger Christiansen

Snide is as Snide does Eric. I think he got most of it right, the people are tired of being lied to by all of the politicians. It will be refreshing to see how a non-politician can do what he knows how to do. The press was the worst example of being lied to. They have lost all credibility for anything they say is relegated to the status of Mad magazine or maybe lower.

      • You are going to get nothing but sweet lies and empty promises while the federal government is dismantled to benefit the global jet-setting class. Trump could be the greatest trojan horse of all time, and eventually we will wind up serfs, migrants, and refugees. Enjoy your MLM casino president while it lasts – the USA itself is becoming a MAD parody with no international credibility. Maybe we can start another war to show how macho we are – but I don’t know how the federal government can afford it.
